In a vehicle steering mechanism a screw member g is moved axially by rotation of a nut member e supported in a bearing d of the casing a. The steering. spindle b which is coupled to the steering linkage is disposed at right angles to the screw and nut and has a radial arm c engaging a slot h in the end of the screw g. The end of the arm c is of involute form so that the points of contact always lie in or close to a plane containing the screw axis. The arm c may alternatively be forked in which case the screw has grooves on each side engaged by the fork instead of a slot h. In a modified form the screw is rotated and' the nut moves axially to transmit movement to the arm c which is forked to engage side grooves on the nut.
