Abstract

719,826. Drying coal &c. LEHMANN & CO, AKT-GES.. H. May 22. 1952 [May 23. 1951]. No. 13029/52. Class 34(2) A method of dewatering fine coal &c. at rest in a tower or tank has three stages, water being removed first in continuous flow, then a stage in which the water separates dropwise and a final stage in which a dry gaseous, medium is passed through the material to evaporate moisture. The tower 1 has a perforated bottom funnel 2 surrounded by a metal screen 3 having means (not shown) for carrying away the water. The funnel 2 is closed by a slide 5 and a central perforated tube 6 acts as a passage for the drying air which may be drawn through by pressure or suction. In a modification, Fig. 5, having a closed outer shell containing a perforated screen 9, the gaseous medium is supplied through openings 10, 10<SP>1</SP> and passes over pipes 12 heated by waste heat. In other modifications the tower is divided into separate compartments each having a perforated tube.
