719,578. Pistons. MAYBACH, K. June 3, 1952 [June 15, 1951], No. 14033/52. Class 122(1) A screw connection for a multi-part piston comprises elements 8 screwed into the piston skirt 2 and provided with heads 12 or nuts thereon let into bores 11'of the piston head 1 and a threaded cap 17 screwed into each of the bores 11 to protect the heads 12 or nuts, each screw head 12 or nut being provided with serrations 15 for a tool for rotating them. The heads 12 are locked in position by rings 21 which engage the serrations and also bores 23 in the recesses 11. The caps 17 have serrations 19 for a tool and thin ring portions 25 larger than the diameter of the bores 11 to lock them in position; the rings 25 may be caulked into recesses 27. In a modification the recesses 11 are formed in sleeves inserted into the head, the sleeves being of steel and the head of aluminium, the sleeves have conical seats for conical flanges on the screws and the caps 17 have engaging bosses on the screw heads to retain them in position.
