Abstract
719,056. Gas purification. UNITED STEEL COS., Ltd. Jan 24, 1952 [Oct. 24, 1950], No. 25900/50. Class 55 (2) In a process for removing hydrogen sulphide from industrial gases the gases are passed through a fluidized bed of particulate iron or manganese oxide maintained at a temperature between 150 and 700‹ C., no air or oxygen being added to the gas to be purified. A temperature of 250-400‹ C. is preferred. As shown in the drawing two fluidized zones A and B are provided one A for removing hydrogen sulphide and the other B for the regeneration of sulphided oxide, the oxide being continuously transferred from one zone to the other by line 47 and 50. Air is admitted to zone B by line 54 and the oxide in the zone is regenerated by combustion of the sulphur, the heat thus liberated providing part of the heat for the process. To supply additional heat a fuel gas is admitted to zone B by line 53, a temperature of 400-600‹ C. being mamtained in the zone. Gas to be purified enters zone A by line 51 and leaves at 52.
