Abstract
717,985. Electrodeposition of nickel. FREINSTEIN, E. June 13, 1952, [Aug. 25, 1951.] No. 4940/52. Class 41. A ground work-piece of iron or non-ferrous metal is first copper-plated or zinc-plated and highly polished, then covered in a short time, preferably 2-3 minutes with a thin deposit of brass, and then nickel plated for a time less than i minute, preferably 25-30 sec. The nickel bath should be of density about 30 BÚ, pH 6.4-6.9, preferably 6.4, temperature above 30 C., preferably 50-60C. and the voltage employed 1.8-2.5, preferably 2.2. The bath contains 40-60, preferably 50, parts by weight nickel sulphate NiSO 4 . 7 H 2 O, 2-4, preferably 2-3 parts sodium sulphate, 2-4, preferably 2-3, parts magnesium sulphate, 0.3-0.6, preferably 0.45 parts sodium chloride, 0.4-0.8, preferably 0.45, parts hydrogen peroxide in 30 per cent solution and 0.2-0.4, preferably 0.3, parts boric acid per 100 parts of water. The articles are moved in the bath, preferably by suspension on a pendulum rod.
