Class 93 [Also in Groups VIII and XVI] A process for decorating articles by the decalcomania process consists in providing between the surface to be decorated and the decalcomania, a thin . layer of an aqueous dispersion of a polymer of acrylic acid esters or methacrylic acid esters or of an interpolymer having a high content of these esters, drying said layer and then transferring the decalcomania by the use of heat and pressure. The dispersion may be applied to the decalcomania, or to the surface being decorated, which may be of leather, wood, metal, a synthetic material, a textile, a foil, regenerated cellulose or parchment paper. The dispersion, which may be sprayed or brushed on, may be of an interpolymer of ethyl acrylate with a small proportion of acrylic acid, or of an interpolymer of butyl acrylate and vinyl acetate. After drying the decalcomania is applied with heat and pressure, and the paper and gelatin layer of the decalcomania removed. The decorated surface may be lacquered with a cellulose lacquer.
