Abstract
715,858. Hydraulic turbines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. May 22, 1953 [June 6, 1952], No. 14320/52. Class 110(3) [Also in Group XXII] A bucket for a Pelton type impulse runner for hydraulic turbines is made by welding together two half-buckets, the splitter separating the two half-buckets being formed by the inner edge of one of them and the weld seams being arranged asymmetrically on one side of the splitter on the concave side of the other half-bucket and symmetrically in the groove at the back of the joint of the two half-buckets. The splitter is formed by an extended inner edge 1<SP>1</SP> of a half-bucket 1 to which the shorter inner edge 2<SP>1</SP> of half-bucket 2 is welded by weld seams 3 and 4. Radial ribs 5 are welded at 6 to the back of each half-bucket and the inner ends of the ribs are welded by fillets 7 forming a polygonal ring to the flanks of the runner wheel disc 8 and the interstices between adjacent ribs are also filled with weld 9. The periphery of the disc is bevelled and welded to the half-buckets at 10. The half-buckets are pressed from stainless-steel-clad steel sheet the stainless steel coating la, 2a, Fig. 4, being on the concave side of the bucket. The mild steel weld 3 is covered by a stainless steel layer 3a weld-deposited on top of the weld 3 and reaching to the edge of the splitter 1<SP>1</SP>.
