Abstract
An article comprises non-metallic granular material held in a metal-ceramic bond formed from a metal and a glass-forming or vitreous ceramic material. The non-metallic grains may be abrasive grains such as aluminium oxide, silicon carbide, or diamond grit or electrically conducting or resisting material. The metal may be copper, copper and tin, or aluminium or iron. The vitreous material is preferably a borosilicate glass, though a lead oxide-silica glass may also be used. In examples abrasive compositions according to the invention utilising alumina as the abrasive material are cold pressed, and then hot pressed at 600 DEG C. at 2 tons per sq. inch.
