Abstract
530,330. Abrasive materials. TENNANT, W. J. (Carborundum Co.). June 9, 1939, No. 17009. Drawings to Specification. [Class 70] An abrasive material suitable for grinding- wheels comprises abrasive particles, which may consist of diamonds, fused alumina, carbides of boron, silicon, tantalum, tungsten &c. embedded in a matrix of iron or other metallic particles. and a heat-hardenable organic bonding material, for instance, a phenol-formaldehyde resin. A specimen composition consists of 3.9 per cent. by weight of diamonds of grit size 80-200, 82.8 per cent. of powdered iron, and 13.3 per cent. of resin. The metal particles are of irregular shape and of smaller dimensions than the abrasive particles.
