Abstract

715,430. Radio receiving systems. PLESSEY, CO., Ltd. July 23, 1953 [July 28, 1952], No. 19017/52. Class 40 (5) In a diversity .reception system, volume compression means, preferably following a logarithmic law, are provided in each signal channel in advance of the signal comparator which controls the diversity switch. In the embodiment described, the channel signal from input A is applied i to a volume compressor comprising resistance 1 and rectifiers 2, 3, the output from which is amplified in triode 4, and tetrode 12, which acts as a limiter, and thence passes to the common output coupling condenser 41. The channel signal from input B is fed to volume compressor 14, 15, 16, triode 17, tetrode 25 and thence to condenser 41. The diversity switch comprises a bistable trigger pair 27, 28 the anodes of which are connected to the screen grids of tetrodes 12, 25 respectively, so that only one of these is operative depending on the state of the trigger circuit. The latter is controlled by the opposed outputs of channel signal rectifiers 7, 20, fed from valves 4, 17, respectively. The rectified signals are developed in the resistors 9, 22 connected in series between the grid of valve 27 and earth.
