Class 94 (1) A collecting and baling press as in the parent Specification and having a material compressing stuffer which moves through the vertical filling opening in the press channel, has a material-engaging working member mounted on the stuffer to move between two positions, one, on the operative stroke of the stuffer, at right angles to its direction of movement and the other, on the back stroke of the stuffer, substantially parallel to its direction of movement so as to pass over harvested material on the collecting table. A rake 12, (or a plurality of rakes) with depending fingers 14. 15, 16, is moved by a crank 13 connected to one end, the other end, near a baling chamber 11, being guided on horizontal rails 26, to push straw deposited on a transverse collecting table 9 by a pick-up cylinder 4 to a vertical opening 10 in the side of the baling chamber 11. Here the straw is stripped from the prongs by an oscillating or reciprocating stuffer 117 pivotally carrying a presser member 118. This presser member is provided with spaced abutments 121, 122, Fig. la, adapted to engage a stop 123 on the stuffer, so as to allow the presser 116 to push straw through the opening 10 into the baling chamber on the operative stroke of the stuffer 117 and on the return stroke thereof to allow the presser 118 to trail in a substantially horizontal position over the straw. In Fig. 1, the stuffer 117 is carried by an arm 119 oscillated by a link 20 connected to that end of the rake 12 running on the rails 26. In Fig. 2 the stuffer 117 is secured to a carriage 28 reciprocated along the rails 26 by the rake 12, an abutment 291, Fig. 2a, on the presser 118 engaging a stop 128 at the end of the return stroke of the stufter to move the presser 113 into a substantially vertical, operative position. In Fig. 3 the stuffer 117 is pivoted to the carriage 28 and is formed with a rear extension 31, a roller 33 on which engages under a deflecting rail 34 to lift the presser 118 against a spring 32 or weight, as it moves back over the collecting table 9. The rail 34 is spring-urged upwardly against a stop 35 and on the operative stroke of the stuffer 117 the roller 33 runs on the top of the rail 34 so that the presser 118 is moved down into the straw.
