Abstract

In the colour-printing of superpolyamide fabrics with acid, substantive, vat, soluble vat, mordant or acetate-dyestuffs, the printing paste is thickened with aqueous polyvinyl alcohol (or a partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl acetate), which is subsequently washed out from the finished printed fabric. The process is applicable to direct or indirect printing methods. In examples, nylon fabric is printed with an aqueous paste containing, in addition to polyvinyl alcohol, (1) the acid dye formed by condensing 1-amino-4-bromo-anthraquinone-2-sulphonic acid with 1-amino-4-N-methyl-acetylamino-benzene and also thiodiglycol, (2) the sulphuric acid ester of leuco naphth-thioindigo, sodium nitrite and thiodiglycol, (3) 1 : 2 : 3-trihydroxy-anthraquinone, acetic acid, chromium acetate and thiodiglycol, (4) the dicyclohexylamine salt of the dye aminoazobenzene --> 2-naphthol-3 : 6 : 8-trisulphonic acid and acetone, and (5) dibenzpyrene-quinone paste, the fabric in this last case being subsequently padded with an aqueous solution containing sodium formaldehyde-sulphoxylate, potassium carbonate, glycerol, dibutyl naphthalene sulphonate and sodium sulphate.
