Abstract
714,591. Ventilators. STEWART, I. M. May 30, 1952 [May 30, 1951], No. 12694/51. Class 137 A ventilator fitting of the directional air discharge type comprises a ball member 1, Fig. 1, affording an air passage terminating in a delivery nozzle, a counterpart socket member 3 in which the ball member is mounted for universal adjustment and a member 2 acting on the periphery of the ball member on that side of the socket member remote from the delivery nozzle to frictionally hold the ball member in any adjusted position. The member 2 is in the form of a rear socket ring having a flange 4 which is apertured to allow it to pass over bridge pieces presented by a flange 5 on the socket 3. A flange 8 is secured to the bridge pieces, leaf springs 7 being interposed between flanges 4 and 8 to resiliently press the ring 2 against the ball member 1. In a modification a plurality of screws pass through the flange 4 and are threaded into the flange 5 a spring being mounted on each screw between its head and flange 4. In a further form the rear socket ring is formed with a plurality of saw cuts at spaced points to cause the ring to act as a spring on the periphery of the ball member. In another modification three spring tongues act against the periphery of the member 1. In the form shown in Fig. 6, a leaf spring 14 mounted on the rear socket ring 2 presses on the ball member 1 through an aperture 15 in the ring 2. In another form a leaf spring is mounted on the rear of the rear socket ring so as to press against the member 1.
