Abstract
714,518. Cranes. A.C.E. MACHINERY, Ltd. Nov. 25, 1952 [Dec. 12, 1951], No. 29132/51. Classes 78 (4) and 78 (5) [Also in Group XXV] A winch having a friction drive, one component being displaceable by manual means to render the winch operative, has a cylindrical sleeve in a supporting bracket for rotational mounting on a scaffolding or like support, an adjustable jib hinged to the bracket and trip mechanism for automatically stopping the operation of the winch. A winch unit so mounted on a supporting bracket rotatable about an upright 12. The bracket comprises a member 9 which acts as a pivot for the spaced members 14 of the jib and has a clamp 10 for a sleeve 11 slidable upon the upright 12 such as is used for scaffolding, two transverse members which support the winch unit, one member 6 having a handle by which the unit can be rotated about the upright. The jib has a strut 18 with a slot 19 with three notches in which a bolt 21 on the sleeve can be clamped to vary the inclination of the jib. A cable 17 passes from a winch 2 over a pulley 16 over a fall block 25 to an anchorage on the jib. The rope may be attached to a cross pin on the face plates 26 dispensing with the pulley 25. The winch is eccentrically mounted and has axially mounted a wheel 3 which is normally maintained out of engagement with a friction pinion 4 by a weighted lever 5. A hand lever 33 is movable about a pivot which carries plates 35 to which is pivoted a pawl 48 having a shoulder 37 which engages a projection on lever 5. When the handle 33 is lowered the lever 5 is raised to bring wheel 3 into engagement with the friction drive 4. Should the load rise too high it strikes a rod 40 which by rod 41 is connected by a cable 42 to a hook 36 on the pawl to disengage the shoulder from the projection and allow the counterweighted arm to disengage the wheel from the drive.
