Abstract
700,913. Window cranes, scaffolding cranes. ZAENGL, K. Aug. 1, 1950 [Aug. 2, 1949], No. 19140/50. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4). A jib crane includes a pair of arms g extending from gripping means which serve to secure the crane in a window opening or to scaffolding, and bearings m, k at the ends of the arms for pivotally holding an upright member of the jib, at least one, k, of the bearings being withdrawable to allow the jib to be removed without adjusting the gripping means. The crane illustrated has a telescoping pillar a, b, which may be extended for clamping engagement with bridges o spanning a window frame, and a jib f carrying a hoist pulley h and supported for slewing about an axis spaced from the pillar by arms g clamped to the pillar. The jib f is mounted on the arms g by upper and lower bearings comprising, respectively, a conical recess m receiving a corresponding projection f, on the jib and a ball k supporting the jib from a screw 1 adjustable in the lower arm g to vary the constraint provided by friction between the surfaces of the upper bearing. The pillar comprises a drawn steel tube b sliding within a tube a to which it may be locked by a pin c passed through registering holes in the tubes. A threaded sleeve d and rod e provide the force to clamp shoes n, provided with levelling screws n<SP>1</SP> ; against the bridges o. Bushes s, Fig. 1a, leave a gap s<SP>1</SP> between the tubes and strengthen the tube a which may be unwrought and non-circular. The inner tube b, the sleeve d and the shoes n may be removed to permit the remainder of the device to be secured by clamps engaging the ends of the tube a to the uprights of a scaffold.
