Abstract

<PICT:0714330/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0714330/IV (a)/2> Apparatus for the melt-spinning of fibres from synthetic linear polyamides comprises a melting device in which the polyamide is melted with exclusion of air, a distributer nozzle leading from the melting device to a vacuum chamber, and a spinning nozzle connected to the vacuum chamber through a spinning pump, the distributer nozzle feeding the molten polyamide through the vacuum chamber in the form of filamentary streams and thereby facilitating the volatilization of monomeric components, occluded gases and water vapour. As shown (Fig. 1), the molten polymer is forced by a pump or by the pressure of the protective gas in the melting chamber (not shown) through conduit 16, sieve 17 and distributer nozzle 14, from which it passes in the form of filamentary streams through vacuum chamber 9. The molten polymer is then passed by pump 11 to the spinning nozzle 4. The hood 6 of the spinning head 5 is heated by a liquid or vapour which enters at 7 and leaves at 8. In a modification (Fig. 2), melting of the polymer is effected at the spinning head, a rod 19 of the polymer being forced through a tapered electrically heated melting bore 16 from which the molten material is forced through distributer nozzle 14 as before. To ensure that the rate of melting does not exceed the supply performance of the spinning pump, a contact manometer actuated by the pressure existing ahead of the distributer nozzle may be employed to control the heating element 18.
