Abstract

1,092,232. Balling and measuring thread. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. Jan. 20, 1966 [Jan. 23, 1965], No. 2699/66. Addition to 920,817. Headings D1F and D1J. In apparatus for successively drawing off, measuring and coiling a thread (a modification of the denier-determining apparatus of the parent specification) a running thread 7 enters a housing 5 through a suction opening 1 (or a tubular insert providing such opening) passes through the nip between separable driving and measuring rollers 2 and 3, past a hot-wire cutter 4 against which it is pushed by a rod 12 when a measured length is to be started or detached, into a suction nozzle 6, thence through a bore 15 and tangentially into a coiling chamber 8 provided with air outlet bores 17 and a pivoted, resiliently mounted cover 14. The thread is formed into a ball which is ejected from the chamber by a jet of compressed air delivered through a nozzle 11. The use of a rotating plunger in the chamber 8, as described in the parent specification, is obviated.
