Abstract

<PICT:0687739/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0687739/IV (a)/2> In the melt-spinning of artificial filaments from plastic masses, e.g. polyamides, polyurethanes or their copolymers, the solid material is passed by a heated screw-press 6 to a heated head 9 where it is melted, the molten material then being passed separately to a plurality of metering pumps 16 with associated filters 17 and spinning nozzles 18. The screw-press 6 and melting-head 9 are separately heated by electrical resistances 8 and 10. A separate casing 13, temperature controlled by a heating fluid, e.g. a silicone, is provided for each metering pump with its associated filter and spinning nozzle. Inert gas may be supplied to the press through inlet C. The speed of the press may be adjusted by variable-speed transmission 2.
