Class 51 (2) In a glass-making furnace having a suspended arched-roof 6 resting on skewbacks 9, each skewback support 10 is pivotally connected to a suspension link 11 adjustably supported by a collar 14 engaging a swivel seating on a plate 15 secured to a buckstay 5, and is also engaged horizontally by a pair of square-headed screws 24 passing through bearing nuts 25 movably clamped to the buckstays 5 by plates 26, 27 and 28 held by bolts 29. The ends of the screws 24 act as a fulcrum for the skewback support 10, and during expansion or contraction of the roof are adjusted axially so that at each stage of the movement a thrust is transmitted along the line TL to hold the roof elements together. During erection of the roof, tilting of the skewback support 10 is prevented by screwed rods 18 engaging an eyemember 20 and a plate 21 secured to the buckstay 5.
