Abstract

581,183. Supporting pipes. GENERAL SPRING CORPORATION. March 17, 1944, No. 5038. Convention date, March 27, 1943. [Class 99 (ii)] A pipe support particularly applicable to a marine-piping system where vibration and thermal expansion occur, comprises a dashpot device 46 which is connected by a universal joint 42 and a threaded adjusting member having a lock nut 70 to the pipe P. The dashpot device 46 is carried on a pair of facing channels by a truck 36 having wheels 37 running on the channels and a pivotal connection 42. Further wheels 38 bear on the upper flanges of the channels, which are supported by bolts 34 which pass through elliptical holes and thus allow for adjustment. The dashpot device may be replaced by the spring support described in Specification 465,941, (Group XXXII]. Where rotary movement only is to be provided, the truck may be omitted, the upper ball joint being connected to the structure by bolts passing through oversized holes to allow for adjustment. A lateral stay incorporating a further dashpot device may be added. Specifications 565,186, 565,189 and 580.054, [Group XXX], are also referred to.
