Abstract

825,464. Expansion joints. POWER FLEXIBLE TUBING CO. Ltd. July 14, 1958 [Nov. 13, 1957], No. 35373/57. Class 99(1). A pipe expansion compensator comprises two metal bellows 1 interconnected by an intermediate pipe section 2 and having two end flanges 3 for connection in a pipe line, and four tie-rods 4 in which pins 5 extend radially from midway of the length of the pipe section 2 into elongated holes 6 in the tie-rods which extend between and are articulated to the flanges 3 so as to permit deflexion of the compensator laterally in two planes at 90 degrees to each other, as well as axially and, at the same time support the pipe section 2 and the bellows 1. As shown, the ends of the tie-rods 4 have elongated holes 7 with flared seatings 8 for the part-spherical facings of nuts 9 threaded on studs 10 projecting from the flanges 3 through the holes 7. In a modification, not shown, the tie-rods are secured by studs between pairs of lugs on the flanges 3.
