Class 123(1) [Also in Group VI] A sterilizer for articles such as dental or surgical instruments which is designed to prevent rust-formation in the apparatus or on the articles during treatment comprises a metallic container for the articles and a zinc element connected to and spaced from one wall of the container, so as to constitute a voltaic cell; metallic clips are secured within the container for supporting the articles in close proximity to but out of contact with the zinc element. In the apparatus shown the zinc element 7 is secured to and spaced from the lid 6 of the container 5. A metal plate 18 is positioned in the container by lugs 19 and clips 17 and is provided with spring clips 11, 14, 15 to engage the instruments. In a modification. the zinc element is mounted between the bottom of the container and the plate 18 which is in this case perforated and raised on studs. For treating rotary dental hapd-pieces or the like separate clips are provided to engage the outer frame and the inner working parts. The apparatus shown is for insertion in an outer vessel and is provided with holes 21. The electrolyte should be rust-inhibiting and may be a solution of calcium glycerophosphate or caustic soda.
