July 28, 1933, No. 21301. Convention date, July 29, 1932. [Class 41.] An electrolytic cell for use in the production of galvanic coatings comprises a chamber having flexible walls-e.g. of rubber-capable of being closed in a fluid-tight manner and capable, when the pressure outside the walls exceeds the pressure inside, of enveloping closely the object(s) to be coated, and comprises a series of conducting studs having relatively long projections which pass through the walls and into the chamber and a series of relatively short conducting studs, the two series being insulated from each other and the longer studs forming the cathode and the shorter the anode, the studs being so distributed over the surface of the walls of the chamber that, under the conditions of pressure referred to, the long studs will come into contact with and the short studs will remain at a distance from the objects to be coated. As shown, the chamber is in halves hinged together and provided with a fluid-tight liner 5 in which are embedded two pipes 6 by which electrolyte is supplied to and removed from the chamber through perforations in the liner being circulated by a rotary pump ; any gas which is formed is removed with the spent electrolyte which is discharged into an open vessel before being recirculated. If the anodes are to be consumed small pieces of the requisite metal may be attached to the inner ends of the short studs 3. The chamber is tiltable about an axis 7. The chamber may house a non- conducting receptacle for holding small objects to be coated, the long studs 2 passing through apertures in the sides of the receptacle.
