[Class 81(i)] An apparatus for oil sterilizing surgical and dental instruments, and which is adapted for use with a sterilizer of the type comprising a tank having a perforated instrument tray dipping or adapted to dip into water placed in the tank so that instruments carried by the tray will be sterilized by the boiling water, comprises a container adapted to contain a small quantity of oil and to receive one or more instruments for sterilizing and to so position it or them as to have at least the operating part thereof immersed in the oil in the container, such container having means for mounting it on and attaching it to the said perforated tray in such a manner that it only partially dips into the water in the said tank when the tray is in its sterilizing position, and the said container having, at its upper part above the level of said water, an opening to give access, when desired, to the interior of the container so as to enable an instrument or instruments to be placed therein or removed therefrom but adapted, during sterilizing operations, to exclude from the interior of the container water and water vapour flowing around the container and heating the same. As shown, the container 7 is in the form of a long cylindrical tube closed at the bottom 8 and having an opening 9 at its upper end, which opening is horizontally disposed during sterilization. A cover 10 hinged at 11 to the upper end of the container 7 is provided to close the spring 9, so as to exclude steam and water vapour from theinterior of the container. A perforated plate 12 is fitted near the bottom 8. The body of the container is provided with a dependent socket 13 in a plane at right angles to the plane of the opening 9 and is adapted to engage a pin 14 detachably fitted to the perforated bottom 15 of a tray. 5 by means of a stud 17.
