Abstract
222,996. Holt, H. E. S. July 25, 1923. Vaporizing by heat.-Apparatus for moistening air in rooms comprises an evaporator d, adapted to extend across the front of and to derive heat from a fire, supplied with water from a container a and provided with a distributing tube j having a perforated top. The water container a is inverted and rests in a receptacle, b, the water, which is maintained at constant level on the bird fountain principle, flowing through an aperture c to the receptacle b and evaporator d connected thereto by a socket member e. The evaporator comprises a casing d containing a fire-resisting filling or a metal tube g closed at its outer end and perforated at its lower part h and wrapped with asbestos i, wire gauze, &c. The distributing tube j is screwed into the socket member e, which may also be provided with a receptacle e<1> to receive any surplus water which may flow into the evaporator when the vessel a is first positioned. A small chamber k containing a perforated tray l for holding a disinfectant, germicide or perfume may surround the top of the tube j, the chamber being fitted with a perforated cap.
