Abstract
505,273. Cleaning by electrolysis. WORLEDGE, J. G. QUIROS-, and HOORE, A. Aug. 3, 1937, No. 21388. Void. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1936. [Class 41] Metal articles are cleaned by treatment as cathodes whereby hydrogen is generated thereon. The electrolyte may be a dilute sodium carbonate solution. The articles may be supported on a negatively connected metallic plate or grid. The anode may be of rustless steel. It may consist of a conductor looped through fins on an insulating support so as to prevent contact with the articles. A device for treating articles without immersion comprises a brush 16 of nonconducting fibrous material adapted to absorb the electrolyte around which metallic loops 17 constituting the anode are compressed by flexible insulating arms 13 actuated by rubber rings 15. The arms 13 are notched at 14 for engagement with a handle 11. The handle may be provided with a dry battery and a lead for connecting the negative terminal to the article. After treatment any material still adherent to the articles may be removed by brushing.
