712,617. Pirn winding. SMITH, D. H. Jan. 22, 1952 [Jan. 24, 1951], No. 1793/51. Class 120(2) An automatic pirn-winder for weft yarn 4 is provided with a compressed air nozzle 1 so mounted that it can direct a current of air on to the loose end of yarn formed at the commencement of a wind by the action of the cutter 2, so that the loose end will be subsequently trapped by the yarn 4 being wound as the pirn builds up. The supply of compressed air to the nozzle may be controlled by the actuation of the cutter 2 or by the commencement of rotation of the new pirn after doffing of the filled one.
