Abstract

543,373. Winding yarns. MASCHINENFABRIK SCHWEITER AKT.-GES. Aug. 26, 1940, No. 13463. Convention date, Aug. 25, 1939. [Class 120 (ii)] In a cop winding machine having automatic tubechanging arrangements and in which the thread from the thread guide to the doffed cop is changed between the driving head and the newly-inserted empty tube and severed between the cop and the driving head, an additional cutting-device is provided for severing the yarn end extending between the base of the cop and the driving head after the winding of the newly-inserted tube has commenced. As shown the additional cutting-device 33 is pivoted on a stud 31a on the top of a casing 30 which protects the carriage 28, carrying the feeler wheel 29 and the means for feeding the carriage forward at each traverse, from dust; the distance between the base 38 of the cop and the blade 35 of the cutting device is adjusted by a set screw 41 screwing through a lug 40 on the device and engaging the top of the casing 30. At the start of the winding the device is held raised in the inoperative position by a cam plate 42 on the feeler carriage 28 and when the plate leaves the device the latter falls and the blade 35 severs the loop of thread extending between the base 38 of the cop and the driving head 9 where it has been clamped when the previously-completed cop was doffed. The cam which effects the declutching of the driving head has a notch which allows the head to be driven for a brief period while it is in the retracted position to fling off the severed yarn ends which ends may be removed by a suction device which is brought into operation when the head is retracted and the ends still hang loose therefrom.
