Abstract

900,191. Winding reserve coils. REINERS, W. July 23, 1958 [Aug. 1, 1957], No. 23680/58. Addition to 874,844. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). The method and apparatus of the parent Specification are modified for application to cops formed with the free outer end, which may include a cord, of yarn located at the base end of the cop. To this end, the step of rotating the cop to unwind the yarn is preceded by axially withdrawing the free end portion by suction directed away from the nose end of the cop without rotating the cop, while the step of drawing off a controlled length of the thread during the rotation of the cop in the unwinding direction is terminated when the thread has been unwound as far as the nose-end whereby the reserve coil then formed by rotating the cop in the original winding direction is located on the nose end. In Fig. 4, G is the starting- end of the wind, F the finishing-end, both of which are at the base-end of the cop, F being joined to the terminating-coils of the wind by a few loose turns as shown. Suction nozzles 18, 16 are provided, the suction being applied to one or the other according to the position of a flap 21 controlled by a lever 22. Nozzle 18 is pivoted; when it is in the operative position shown, flap 21 is in the full-line position and the the suction is directed to draw-off ends F and G. The position of flap 21 is now reversed, nozzle 18 pivoted to the inoperative position, and the cop rotated in the unwinding direction, Fig. 5 ; the ends F, G are severed by shears 17, while a length F1 is drawn into nozzle 16 until the thread unwinds to a point at the nose-end, whereupon the direction of rotation is reversed and the length F1 wound-up thereat being guided to the nose-end by the rear wall of nozzle 16. In Fig. 1, cops K for treatment are fed successively to a support 6 by a toothed wheel 4 and guides 5, nozzle 18 and a shear blade 17, are moved into and out of operative position by the rotation of a shaft 24. After these have done their work, the cop is moved off support 6 by a pusher 7 on to rollers 14, 15 above nozzle 16, the rollers rotating first one way and then the other. A link 28 for moving nozzle 18 and the lever 22 for moving flap 21 are controlled by a double-lever 27 fixed on a shaft 24 to which the operating-member of the shears is also secured. Pusher 7 is loosely mounted on shaft 24 and is integral with an arm 7a following a constantly rotating cam 8. Other cams rotate shaft 24 and reverse a switch controlling the rotation of rollers 14, 15.
