Abstract

Prior to package building the yarn passes to a pneumatic gum, and the gum is moved to thread the yarn over an auxiliary guide and through a hook on the bobbin support arm. The bobbin is moved to engage a drive roller and a cam on the auxiliary guide deflects the yarn so that it is caught by a catching element on the bobbin centering flange. The yarn starts to wind on the bobbin and is pulled onto a cutting edge above the hook to cut the yarn between the bobbin and the pneumatic gun. A first reserve winding is formed on the end of the bobbin and the can then deflects the yarn to form a second reserve winding inwardly of the first. Subsequently the cam forces the yarn from the auxiliary guide to allow package building using a traverse guide. Reserve windings are formed automatically and the bobbin can be doffed without interrupting yarn feed.
