Abstract

1487339 Yarn piecing apparatus SACO LOWELL CORP 3 Dec 1974 [23 Jan 1974] 52312/74 Heading DID Yarn piecing apparatus comprises an auxiliary yarn supply, a yarn feeding tube for conveying yarn from the supply, an air suction storage tube for storing an end of the auxiliary yarn, the end when stored extending across an unenclosed space between the tubes, and yarn release air jet means adjacent the position of a portion of the end when extending across the space for imping- ing a jet of air against the extending yarn to remove the yarn from the storage tube and propel it towards a winding station. As shown, Fig. 1, mobile yarn piecing carriage 38 mounted on ring spinning frame 10 carries auxilliary yarn Y, spindle rotator 54, and means 56 for supplying an end of the auxilliary yarn, wrapping it about a bobbin 26, threading it through a traveller and extending it upwards to means 58 for joining it to roving issuing from rolls 14. Means 56 is lowered on and rotated by shaft 102. Fig. 4, until lever 112 abuts ring rail 34 and stop 88 abuts ring base 23. Yarn Y, threaded through tube 60 and sucked into tube 62, is removed from tube 62 and wrapped around bobbin 26 by an air jet from horizontal nozzle 64 which passes tangential to the bobbin. Yarn wrapping is assisted by a deflecting air jet from nozzle 66. Means 56 is retracted, so that depressor 68 held by a cam above the wrapped yarn is allowed to fall, and is then advanced so that depressor 68 abuts the ring and holds the yarn on the ring. An air jet from nozzle 70 then moves traveller 20 onto the yarn. Means 56 is raised, yarn running from tube 60, and means 58 joins the yarn to roving at rolls 14 and cuts the yarn, the end of yarn Y being re-sucked into tube 62.
