[Also in Division D1] A composite spinning and let-off spindle comprises two coaxial cylinders 3, 4 of equal diameter and length on a driven blade 1, the upper one being drivably mounted and the other rotatably mounted. A former, split in two longitudinally and kept together by elastic bands or sticky tape, is placed on the upper cylinder, and as the blade is driven by a whorl 2, a package is built on it by a ring-andtraveller. The former and package are then pushed off the upper cylinder on to the lower one, from which yarn is drawn for re-winding while another package is built on the upper cylinder.
