SPINNING-SPINDLE Filed June 26, 1962 IN VEN TOR.
flin /1'6 Gluing f M A first 3,162,994 SPINNlNG-SPINDLE Hendrik Glastra, 25 Van t Hotllaan, Enschede, Netherlands Filed June 26, 1962, Ser. No. 205,365 Claims priority, application Netherlands, July 13, 1961, 267,072 2 Claims. (Cl. 57-130) This invention relates to a spinning spindle for a ring spinning frame, designed to be combined with a winding machine, which, immediately after dofiing, rewinds the yarn into larger bobbins, for example cones.
In the known combinations of spinning-frames and winding-machines, when dofling, the full bobbins are taken from the spindles and placed in a row in front of the spindles. Being in this position they are subsequently wound off, while empty bobbins placed on the spindles are being wound up. Each time the full bobbins have been completely wound off and the bobbins on the spindles have meanwhile been wound up, the empty and the full bobbins are interchanged and a new cycle starts.
It is the object of the invention to provide a spinning spindle with which this method may be carried out in a simple way.
For this purpose the spinning spindle of the invention comprises two coaxial cylindrical parts having equal diameters and approximately equal lengths, the upper part being connected to a driving mechanism and the lower part being freely rotatable.
By applying spindles of this type, existing spinning frames may be arranged so as to carry out the abovedescribed method in combination with one or more winding machines, whilst in addition to this in a spinning frame appointed in this manner doifing is an exceptionally simple operation.
In spinning, the yarn is wound on to the upper part of the spindle, whereby it is preferred for a lengthways divided tube to be disposed on the spindle first. As soon as a yarn packet has been formed in this manner, it is shoved on to the lower, freely rotatable part of the spindle; on the upper part of the spindle is placed an empty tube, which is likewise divided lengthways, and the two halves of which are kept together by elastic bands, adhesive tape or similar means. While the upper part is being wound up again, the yarn from the freely rotatable lower part can be rewound into larger bobbins.
United States Patent 3,162,994 Patented Dec. 29, 1964 After rewinding the tube can be removed from the lower part, because it consists of two halves.
The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of a spindle according to the invention and in which FIG. 1 is a vertical cross section and FIG. 2 is a vertical side elevation showing spun yarn being wound onto a bobbin on the upper part of the spindle while yarn is being removed from the lower part.
The spindle has a central shaft 1, which is supported in the usual spindle bearing not shown in the drawing. The said shaft is driven by a driving belt which runs on the pulley 2. The cylindrical upper part 3 is fixedly fastened to the shaft; the cylindrical lower part 4 can freely rotate about the shaft 1 by means of the ball bearings 5 and 6.
During operation the upper part 3 is first completely wound up with the spun yarn; after this the yarn packet is shifted on to the lower part 4 and a new yarn packet is formed on the part 3. The yarn now present on the part 4 is then wound off therefrom to form a cone. FIG. 2 shows spun yarn 7 being wound onto a bobbin 8 on the upper part 3 of the spindle by means of the diagrammatically shown conventional traveller 9 and ring 10 of a ring spinning machine. The dotted lines show the bobbin 8 when ready to be dofled.
On the lower part 4 of the spindle, FIG. 2, there is shown a bobbin 11, the yarn of this bobbin being removed at 12. The dotted lines show the bobbin 11 before the rewinding was started.
I claim:
1. Spinning spindle for the combination of a spinning frame and a winding machine, comprising two coaxial cylindrical parts having the same diameter and substantially the same length, the upper part being connected to a driving element and the lower part being freely rotatable.
2. A spinning spindle comprising two coaxial parts of which one is an upper cylindrical part connected to a shaft, and the other is a lower cylindrical part freely rotatable on the shaft.
