Abstract

712,516. Sparking plugs. DEHN, S. G. (United States Quarry Tile Co.). July 15, 1949, No. 8419/52. Divided out of No. 712,473. Class 7(4) In a sparking plug comprising two electrodes separated by an insulating body provided with a longitudinal bore closed at its inner end by a wall and wherein one of said electrodes is disposed in said bore in contact with said wall, the wall comprises a plurality of conductive wires or granule elements which are embedded in insulating material and confined within the outer surface of said wall. A steel electrode is sealed by a ceramic cement or screw-threaded into a well 612 formed in an insulating body 611 having an alumina content up to 92 per cent by weight. The insulating body has two screw-threaded portions as shown to respectively position the plug in the engine and to accommodate a steel ground electrode having one or more nickel tips. The bottom wall of the well has conducting wires of platinum extending therethrough or consists of a ceramic material and a metallic powder, such as iron, nickel, chromium or tungsten, sintered together.
