Abstract

711,008. Purifying gases. ALTHOFF, R. LUEG-. July 7, 1952 [July 12, 1951], No. 17044/52, Class 55 (2) Hydrogen sulphide is selectively absorbed from gases containing hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide by washing the gases with an aqueous solution of ammonia, the time of contact being short and the washing effected in a washer containing one or more metal plates formed with slit-like openings by pressing strips of the metal out of the plane of the plate without detaching them from the plate. The washing may be followed by a washing with water in an apparatus containing similar metal plates to remove ammonia from the gas. The ammonia available for removing hydrogen sulphide from the gas should preferably be double the theoretical quantity for the amount of hydrogen sulphide to be washed out.
