Abstract

A procedure for the selective extraction of hydrogen sulfide from gases containing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, using an alkanolamine solution, characterized in that the hydrogen sulfide is extracted from the gases to such a low concentration in the treated gas, that the ratio of hydrogen sulfide in the feed gas to hydrogen sulfide in the treated gas is at least 30, with less than 30% of the carbon dioxide present in the feed gas being absorbed by contacting said gases with the solution of alkanolamine at low temperature and high gas velocities in a plate column with less than 20 contact plates.
