Abstract

710,851. Stoppers. HEINZ, CO., Ltd., H. J. (Owens-Illinois Glass Co.). Dec. 31, 1952, No. 33128/52. Class 125 (3) A dispensing fitment for sauce &c. bottles is formed from resilient material, e.g. polyethylene and comprises a nozzle 15 surrounded by an annular well 16, a rim 17 arranged to abut against the end face of the bottle neck 11, a skirt 18 gripping the periphery of the neck and a cap 22 adapted to engage the neck of the container and seal the nozzle. An inwardly projecting bead 20 on the skirt snaps into a groove 28 in the bottle neck, and the nozzle is closed by the screw cap 22 engaging threads 12 on the neck. An annular ridge 19 is formed on the rim 17 and the upper portion of the nozzle 15 projects upwardly beyond this ridge so that when the cap 22 is screwed home the parts forming the well 16 are flexed downwardly to ensure sealing. A transverse segment 21 extends across the lower part of the bore of the nozzle to prevent surge of the liquid, and any liquid remaining on the fitment will drain into the well 16 when the bottle is returned to its vertical position.
