Classes 110(1) and 110(3) In axial-flow machines, particularly blowers and turbines, the.rotor blades, which cannot be radially displaced, are adjusted through a number of elements conected in series and common to all the blades, the transmission means from the last common element to each blade including screw threaded spindles. The pitch of impeller blades 2 is adjusted by means of a central gearwheel 8 which, is rotated. manually or by a motor, through a pinion 9. For each blade, there is a screw-threaded spindle 4 driven, through a gearwheel 7, from the gearwheel 8. The resultant longitudinal movement of a nut 5 is transmitted by linkage 6, 3 to the corresponding blade 2. The gearing may be replaced by chain drive. The pitch-adjustment mechanism of the individual impellers of a multi-stage blower may be coupled together, and the screw-threaded spindles of the individual impellers may be of different pitch. To permit the adjustment to be made while the impeller is running, the drive to the mechanism may include elements arranged coaxially with the impeller. Where a motor is used, it may rotate with the impeller, current being fed to it through sliprings.
