Abstract
661,942. Screw fans and pumps; hydraulic turbines. KONINKLIJKE MACHINEFABRIEK GEB. STORK & CO., N.V. June 22, 1949. [June 23, 1948] No. 16525/49. Classes 110(i) and 110 (iii). [Also in Group XXXIII] In a device for adjusting the blades of an impeller for a fan, pump, or hydraulic turbine, the driving gear 12 of the adjusting device 6-5-7-10 of the blades is disconnected from the pinion 14 of the control mechanism during the operation of the impeller and the control mechanism is provided with a lock at 34 actuated by the control member 20 for engaging and disengaging the pinion 14 and driving gear 12 and locking the control mechanism when the latter are disengaged. The adjusting device is as described in Specification 661,941. Pinion 14 is secured on a shaft 13 movable axially by a fork 15 actuated by mechanism connected to a shaft 19 geared to a rod 30 and control handwheel 20 preferably provided with an electromagnetic lock 37 which 'releases the handwheel when supply of current to the driving motor is interrupted. The shaft 13 is driven by a toothed wheel 22 meshing with a broad pinion 23 geared to a shaft 27 which is rotated through gears 29, rod 36, and handwheel 28. Rod 30 is screwed to carry a nut-block 31 secured to one end of a lever 33, the other end of which carries a spring-loaded bolt 34 engaging in holes in a disc 35 secured to the rod 36. To adjust the blades the impeller is first brought to a standstill, handwheel 20 is rotated to cause the spring-loaded pinion 14 to engage the adjusting device driving gear 12, nut-block 31 lowers and lever 33 is moved to raise bolt 34 clear of disc 35, thereby freeing handwheel 28 which is then turned to rotate pinion 23 and hence wheel 22, pinion 14 and adjusting gear 12. The degree of adjustment of the blades is indicated by a nut-block 40 screwed on the rod 36. A switch 41 actuated by the lever 33 prevents supply of current to the driving motor so long as pinion 14 is in mesh with the gear 12. In an alternative construction the driving gear 12 is provided with radial teeth with which the pinion 14 may be brought into mesh. Mounted on the gear 12 are pivoted strips which act under centrifugal force to prevent the pinion 14 coming into mesh. In this construction the shaft 13 has a surrounding sleeve on which is mounted a lever which is depressed to bring the pinion 14 into mesh and which carries a stud for locking a handwheel which is mounted on, and rotates, the shaft 13.
