Abstract

Aqueous textile lubricating compositions comprise condensation products of alkyl phenols with 5-20 molecular proportions of ethylene oxide, sodium benzoate and a polyhydric alcohol. Alkyl phenols specified are a , a - g g - tetramethylbutylphenol, dodecylphenol, di-tertiary-butylphenol, dioctylphenol, octadecylphenol, 4-methyl-2-tertiary-octylphenol and mixed octyl phenols or octyl cresols obtained by alkylating phenol or crude cresols with butene dimer. Polyhydric alcohols referred to are glycerol, triethanolamine and polyethylene glycol. In an example, a mixture was prepared of 100 parts of a 30 per cent. aqueous solution of a p-(iso-octyl) phenol ethylene oxide condensate containing 70 molecular proportions of ethylene oxide, 12 parts of sodium benzoate and 15 parts of glycerol.
