Abstract

710,000. Refrigerating. REYNOLDS, J. W. July 10, 1952 [July 10, 1951], No. 16315/51. Class 29 In a refrigerating system for a chamber 14 the air in which is circulated by a fan 17 and comprising a compressor 10, condenser 11, expansion'valve 12 and evaporator 13 located in a rear compartment 15 of the chamber 14, defrosting periods are determined by a-timer 21 which stops the fan 17 and opens a solenoid-actuated valve 20 in conduit 19 through which hot gaseous refrigerant passes direct to' the evaporator where it condenses, the condensate being re-evaporated in an electrically heated oil-bath 22 from which the gaseous refrigerant returns to the compressor by way of an expansion chamber 24. The heater 23 of the oil-bath 22 is energized by the timer a sufficient time before the valve 20 is opened for the oil to be hot at the start of defrosting. The heater 23 comprises an oil-heater chamber from which hot oil circulates around a nest of tubes through which the refrigerant passes from bottom to top. A small pipe drains lubricating oil from the bottom of the nest of tubes into the pipe leading to the compressor suction.
