Abstract

529,750. Refrigerators. BURDEN, H. J. June 7, 1939, No. 16676. [Class 29] One compartment is maintained at or below freezing temperature by usual cooling unit 8 and a second compartment is maintained moist and above freezing temperature by intermittently circulating air between the compartments by a fan 18 controlled by a combined humidostat and thermostat 20. The refrigerator space is divided into the two compartments by an insulated wall 7, the cold compartment having an additional inner door. Air is withdrawn from the cold compartment through a duct 21 by the fan 18 and delivered to a perforated pipe 22 in insulated water tank 13. After being moistened by bubbling through the water in the tank the air passes through a duct 14 to the cool compartment whence it returns through apertures 17 and a duct 15 to the cold compartment, passing through ducts 16 on either side of the cooling unit 8. Water is supplied to the tank 13 by a pipe 24 having an injector 25 which draws in fresh air from outside the refrigerator through a pipe 26, stale air displaced by the fresh air being vented from the cool compartment through a valved pipe 32. The tank 13 is drained by a pipe 27 having a spray nozzle 28 so pcsitioned that the water cools the condenser 29 of the refrigerating machine and passes to the drains at 31.
