Abstract

709,239. Partition walls. COOPER, W. A. B. Feb. 16, 1953 [Feb. 20, 1952], No. 4453/52. Class 20 (4) Wall studs 3 are mounted between upper and lower longitudinal members 2 and 1, and retained by springs 12, the panels 4 being located by engagement with recesses 7, 9, 15, 17 in the members 1, 2 and vertical recesses 23, 25 in the studs. A central insulating panel 10 is located in similar recesses. The studs are formed as hollow pillars with top and bottom filling blocks 19, 20, the former each having a lug 21 to engage a locating hole in the member 2 and the latter being recessed to relieve the spring 12. The studs may be flush with, or stepped relatively to, the panels. The springs 12 may be housed in sockets formed in the member 1, or in telescopic casings, or the springs may each be housed in the lower end of the stud, a plunger being pressed downwardly thereby to engage a locating recess in the member 1. As shown in Fig. 3 the end stud is made in parts 32, 33 with tongue and groove join to 34, 35 each part being flanged at 36 to engage over the panels 4. Alternatively, the end stud may consist of a post disposed wholly between the panels 4, and side strips 1 external to the panels, secured by dowels to the inner part. If desired a picture rail may be secured to the panels or studs.
