617,621. Building units; walls. DUNCAN. M., and HENDEL, W. May 4, 1946, Nos. 13592 and 13593. Convention dates, Aug. 2, 1945, and Oct. 19, 1945. [Classes 20(iv) and 87 (i)] A building unit comprising metal, reinforced concrete or plastic surface members 4 is formed on its vertical side faces with a tongue 2 and groove 1 having longitudinal channels 12 to receive jointing material. As shown in Fig. 3, two tray-like metal members 4 are connected together by distance pieces 7 and are strengthened by corrugated metal 5, the space between them being partly or wholly filled with insulating material 6. The top and bottom of the unit are closed by metal troughs which engage with the roof and foundation and are apertured to receive hooked metal members connecting adjacent units together and to the foundation. In a modification, the members 4 are joined by metal channels within the unit. In another modification, the members 4 are flat and are connected together by metal channels forming the tongue 2 and groove 1. As shown in Fig. 10, reinforced concrete surface members 32 are provided with embedded metal end pieces 33, 34 and are fastened together by distance pieces 37, insulating material 38 being provided within the unit. Corner units are formed with the groove 1 in one surface 4 adjacent the side face instead of in the side face. The units are locked to a metal member 45 embedded in a foundation 44 by metal rods 49 engaging grooves 48. Flushing 52 and weep holes 51 are provided. The units are similarly connected to a top plate.
