Abstract
707,299. Machinery guards. HUNT, A. W. May 2, 1952 [Feb. 7, 1951], No. 3034/51. Class 80 (4) A guard for a rotating tool operating on a work bench 5 such as a circular saw 8 comprises a wedge-shaped plate 1 lying along one side of the saw and having a flange 7 extending above the saw and being pivoted on a fixed spindle 3. Pivoted at 14 on the free end of the plate 1 is a cap member 10 which covers the front of the blade. This member is also coupled at 15 to a link 16 which at its other end is supported with play in a fixed pillar 17. When the work is fed along the bench to the saw it first strikes the inclined front edge 13 of the cap member 10 and lifts it together with the guard plate 1 to uncover the saw blade. A spring 22 serves to balance part of the weight of the guard and a fixed plate 21 is arranged just above the blade 8 as a safety device in the event of the work rising or the saw breaking. A further plate pivoted to the cap member 10 may be provided for small diameter tool. Specification 662,756 is referred to.
