Abstract

565,612. Machinery guards. GRIFFITHS, G. May 17, 1943, No. 7792. [Class 80 (iv)] Consists in a guard for drilling and like machines having a vertically movable and rotating cutter. The guard comprises a perforated sheetmetal member 1 bent into substantially semicircular form, the side edges having U-shaped guide grooves formed by riveting two strips of metal 2, 3 thereto. These guide grooves accommodate a second similarly shaped member 5 which therefore telescopes over the member 1 and can be secured in adjusted position by a thumb nut 7. The extension member may comprise two curved pieces of perforated metal covered by transparent material. The upper member 1 is hinged at 10 to a bracket 11 forming part of the spindle housing. When in position, the guard abuts an extension 14 on the bracket, but may be swung upwardly, as shown in dotted lines, away from the drill or cutter. In both positions it is held by a spring 13.
