Abstract

859,992. Machinery guards. ROWLEY Ltd., W. April 21, 1959 [May 19, 1958], No. 15943/58. Class 80 (4) In guard means for a circular saw 5 or other rotary cutting tool which is mounted on a carrier (not shown) to be displaceable transversely of its axis (e.g. downwardly) towards a work-bench (not shown), the upper half of the saw is covered by a semicircular housing 4 fixed to the carrier, while the lower half is covered by two segmental shields 10, 11 mounted for pivotal movement about the saw axis, the shields 10, 11 being held together by a spring 12, but being coupled by respective links 13 pivoted to a fixed bracket 14 so that the shields are moved apart and into the housing 4 as the saw is lowered. The position of the bracket 14 and/or its pivotal connections may be adjustable (e.g. by slots). As shown, the segmental shields 10, 11 are formed with cylindrical sleeves concentrically mounted on a sleeve 6, Fig. 2, formed on the housing 4 and surrounding the saw shaft 7.
