Abstract
Dyeings or prints with the tetrasulphuric acid leuco-ester of tetrahydro-1:2:2\sv:1\sv-dianthraquinoneazine are produced by the steam development method by acid oxidation in the presence of at least one buffer substance, there being used as buffer substance a sulphonic or carboxylic acid of a mono- or di-hydroxynaphthalene or a water soluble salt of such acid. Specified acids are 1-naphthol-3-, 4- and 5-sulphonic acids, 2-naphthol-8-sulphonic acid and -6-carboxylic acid, and 2:8-dihydroxynaphthalene-6-sulphonic acid and its 3-carboxy derivative. Examples describe the use of printing pastes containing certain of these buffer substances together with ammonium thiocyanate, sodium chlorate and ammonium vanadate.
