Abstract

707,110. Luminescent materials. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 14, 1951 [Dec. 19, 1950], No. 29367/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1) Luminescent material, for use with an electric gas discharge tube for the production of ultraviolet rays, comprising calcium orthophosphate activated by thallium, is characterised in that the crystal lattice comprises also aluminium, the ratio between the sum of the number of atoms of the elements calcium, aluminium and thallium and the number of atoms of phosphorus being between 3:2 and 2.4:2, preferably 2.9:2, and the ratio between the number of atoms of aluminium and thallium being between 0.5: 1 and 2: 1, preferably 1 : 1. There may be 4 atoms each of aluminium and thallium per 100 molecules of calcium orthophosphate. The luminescent material can be positioned inside the discharge tube or outside it, e.g. on a reflector outside the tube. The maximum emission of the material lies between 3050 and 3100 Š. Methods of preparation of the material are described. Specifications 512,154 and 577,693 are referred to.
