Abstract

706,907. Stop mechanism for drawing frames and like textile machines. MACKIE & SONS, Ltd., J., and MACKIE, J. P. Dec. 21, 1950 [Dec. 29, 1949], No. 33289/49;. Classes 120(1) and 120(2) In a stop mechanism for a drawing frame or similar textile machine, the relative movement between the two front delivery rollers consequent upon any predetermined reduction in the thickness of a sliver passing between them is utilized to operate a device to stop the machine. As shown, the pressing delivery roller 7 which is carried in a bearing block 9 slidable in a bracket 10 secured to the frame of the machine by a bolt 11, is urged against the driving roller 6 by a compression spring 8 acting on the bearing block 9. Movement of the shaft 7 toward the roller 6 due to a predetermined reduction in the thickness of the sliver is transmitted through the adjustable bolt 15 to a lever 16 fulcrummed at 17 and having at its other end 20 another bolt 21 the head of which bears upon the operating plunger of a switch 23. In a second embodiment, the pressure roller is carried in a bracket pivoted to the machine frame and provided at its lower end with an extension carrying an adjustable bolt the end of which bears against the plunger of the stop switch. In a further embodiment, the shaft carrying the pressure roller is provided with actuating cam means which under normal conditions rotates clear of a blade carried by one arm of a bell crank lever the other arm of which is in contact with a toggle mechanism for operating a switch to stop the machine. When the pressure roller moves towards the driving roller, the cam means contacts the blade thus turning the bell crank lever and tripping the toggle mechanism which operates the stop switch. There is described and shown Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) a sliver guide for combining two slivers which comprises a plate having two oblique slots therein, one sliver passing down through one slot, across the underside of the plate substantially at right angles to its former direction and up through the second slot which again turns it through substantially a right angle, on to the upper surface of the plate where it meets and combines with the second sliver.
